The central nervous system, composed of the brain and spinal cord, is one of the most important systems in our body as its job is to control the function of all the other systems. In conjunction with the central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system controls all the nerve responses in the body.  As part of these systems, the autonomic system’s primary purpose is to control all of the automatic responses that our body does without thinking.

If you break down the nervous system even further, the autonomic system is composed of two separate parts, the parasympathetic nervous system and the sympathetic nervous system. An Imbalance of the Autonomic Systems Leads to Dysautonomia
