pediatric chiropractic babyThe benefits to health achieved through chiropractic care are not limited to adults. It is a common misconception that chiropractic is only appropriate once you become slightly older and start having noticeable problems with your spine. As we know, trauma or misalignment in the spine has consequences for the rest of the nervous system and do not always show up in the form of pain or back problems. These truths apply to babies and children, too, and pediatric chiropractic is making huge strides in proving its benefits.

Is Pediatric Chiropractic Safe?

The safety of pediatric chiropractic care is well understood and studies that focus on the specific methods and their effects have shown significant positive results, all achieved without causing any harm. Pediatric chiropractic is just as safe as chiropractic for adults, and since it offers optimal health, it can actually prevent several illnesses and problems in your child, leading to a healthier life from a younger age.

How Are Children Adjusted?

When adjusting our younger practice members, who can range from anywhere to a few hours old up to 18, a different approach is taken. Following an in-depth assessment, very gentle adjustments that can be as light as a finger touch are performed to correct misalignments.

Specialized training is involved for doctors who offer pediatric chiropractic. From the very outset, our very own Dr. Grant has dedicated himself to gaining as much knowledge as possible, allowing us to provide the highest possible care to future generations.

When Can Pediatric Chiropractic Care Help?

As we know, misalignment or trauma of the spine doesn’t necessarily involve back pain. Any impairment related to the spine can manifest in a huge number of ways. Treating these misalignments, therefore, can have a significant impact on the symptoms experienced and the overall health of the person.

Knowing exactly what is affecting young children can be slightly more difficult than in adults as they can’t communicate their problems as clearly. Children may only describe soreness or be more restless or fussy in general when something is not quite right. But getting your child adjusted regularly by a pediatric chiropractor can generally eradicate any current or future issues, leading to a healthier, happier child (and parent!).

For children, chiropractic care has been shown to provide much of the same great benefits as it does for adults and the benefits can be seen through reduced symptoms, improved mood, and increased immune function, among countless other things.

There are many situations when chiropractic care is appropriate for your child but the most common symptoms seen in relation to spinal health in children are as follows:

  • Ear, nose, and throat-related problems – This can include earaches, sore throats, stuffiness, or difficulty breathing.
  • Muscular or body pains/tightness – Noticed especially in the upper back and neck of young children, chiropractic can quickly reduce this type of discomfort.
  • GI Problems – Digestive or stomach issues including allergies often find their roots in misalignments of the spine.

Chiropractic Care for Your Child

Treating children is at the heart of our mission of improving the current and future health of practice members here at Greater Life Chiropractic. This mission begins at a young age by correcting trauma that could manifest in a variety of negative ways later in life.

As we always say here at Greater Life Chiropractic, “Sick and medicated kids turn into sick and medicated adults.” Let’s start early and give our children and families the best chance of great health now and for the future.
